Tiny Dancers :: Children’s Ballet Theater

Yes this post is sponsored, but we truly love this ballet company!

When I found out my third baby was going to be a girl, I was SO EXCITED! Having two boys was fun, but this Southern mama wanted all the dresses and bonnets and bows that Southern babies manage to pull off with such charm. And what is the next logical stage of Southern girl? Ballet, of course! Pink tutus, tiny ballet shoes, it’s a Southern mama’s dream come true!

I enrolled Katherine Cobb as soon as she was able (2.5 at Children’s Ballet Theater!). Ya’ll, I cannot adequately express how cute she was in that tiny leotard. Children’s Ballet Theater requires the most traditional of ballet attire: an all pink with leotard with a skirt, pink tights, and pink shoes. It is the cutest.

Seriously, is there anything cuter?

Once she got started, I really appreciated the skills and techniques she was learning, even at the very beginning level. She knows first (pizza slice with her feet) and second position and how to do a plie. Plus they really work on those smooth, graceful movements that ballerinas are famous for. But my favorite part of the class was the beginning. All the teeny ballerinas would line up and, one by one, be acknowledged by the instructor and curtsy to them. It was a formal, elegant transition from the craziness that happens before class to the discipline and structure of a ballet class. It was super cute and interesting to watch every week. I was really happy with her semester, and have already signed her up for the fall!

Children’s Ballet Theater, a non profit directed by Mary Van Dyke, and the Tennessee Ballet Theater directed by Erin Walter, are now registering for fall classes for ages 2.5-18 years old PLUS adults! They offer a unique, classical ballet program in the Russian and French styles with uplifting, professional, and encouraging faculty. They offer pointe, varations, partnering, jazz, modern, lyrical, tap, and contemporary dance classes. The students perform in the highly acclaimed Children’s Ballet Theater Nutcracker at the GPAC in many of the lead roles, such as Clara and Columbine Doll. Plus, they perform in an annual Spring Concert.
