17 Berkshire is the sweetest bakery located in Overton Square (plus, there is currently a pop up space at Saddle Creek in Germantown!). They sell coffee, tea, seasonal pastries, and macarons. They also offer afternoon tea! (Bonus: they were one of our 2021 favorite things!)
17 Berkshire is more than just a coffee shop and more than just a bakery. They offer coffee, lattes, and hot tea, but my personal favorite is the heavenly (tea with a hint of vanilla) tea latte. They also make all of their own syrups in house and offer seasonal ones.
They really specialize in baking. Macarons are their signature pastry. They offer a variety every day, plus have seasonal varieties that rotate (apple cinnamon in the fall is one of my favorites). Bonus for the kiddos: for holidays, they decorate macarons; the vanilla ghost macaron is the cutest. There is also a variety of cupcakes, cookies, and brownies sold daily. They also have a cold case featuring seasonal, specialty pastries. There’s a different trifle every week, homemade marshmallows, and, if you’re lucky enough to get there in time, usually a whole cake for sale. (I have it on very good authority that they are going to be selling homemade croissants soon; I cannot wait).
Finally, and my daughter’s favorite, is afternoon tea. Each adult tea includes 3 mini tea sandwiches, 2 scones, a shared side of lemon curd, and three petit pastries. A pot of tea is shared per couple. This gives each person about 2-2.5 cups of tea. Children receive 2 mini sandwiches, 1 scone, a shared side of lemon curd, and two petit pastries. Children may choose between hot tea or hot chocolate. I’ve been to tea with friends for a baby shower and I’ve taken my daughter for a fun mother-daughter treat. It’s so yummy and it’s extra fun to get dressed up for high tea.
Being a bakery, 17 Berkshire also offers signature cakes + pastries that can be ordered aead of time. You can get petit fours, a variety of cakes (I highly recommend their take on a birthday cake because they put macarons on top as part of the decoration), mini tarts, and even wedding cakes! They also offer seasonal pre-orders; they will open up their Valentine’s preorder soon. Anyone need a heart-shaped cake? Head to their website for more information on what is offered.
My favorite is their specialty days. They have done Harry Potter days on Harry’s birthday. Taylor Swift themed days on her birthday. In a couple of weeks, they are doing Fae Day for all you Maasverse fans (me included)! On February 10, they are having Galentine’s Day at both locations and will be having a florist doing build-you-own bouquets. These will be announced on their Instagram.
Finally, each store has a small section of goods for purchase. You can buy their tea, candles, home goods, sweatshirts that have the word “Cake” embroidered on them, etc. It’s a great place to stop in and get a hostess gift or a happy just for yourself!
