Ok. This Go, See, Explore isn’t really for the family. Well, you CAN definitely bring your entire family along to Inspire Community Cafe. They can sit around the table, noisily complaining that they should have gotten the hibiscus tea rather than the orange juice that they actually asked for. Or greedily gobbling down the pancakes with reckless abandonment while ignoring your request for them to slow down and actually chew their food.
Yea. Your family will definitely love Inspire Cafe. However, so will you…alone…by yourself…without the kids or husband.
Hear me out.
I dine at Inspire Community Cafe 2-3 times a month. I would prefer to do it weekly, but mom-guilt sets in.
Inspire Community Cafe cooks their food from FRESH, LOCAL ingredients! They serve breakfast ALL DAY! Plus, their lunch menu is amazing!!!!
On top of serving yummy eats, they also have a really cool mission too, “To nourish community change by providing living wage jobs, life-giving food and a gathering place that inspires and connects people for the sake of a more just and compassionate Memphis.”
Early on Saturday mornings, I grab my book and head to Inspire Cafe. I glance at the menu. Do I want an Egg Scramble? It’s healthy, delicious, and low-carb. Or maybe I should go with the Breakfast Quesadilla. It’s huge. I could each half of this egg, cheese, veggies, and meat quesadilla for breakfast and the other half for lunch.
I go through all of these thoughts and considerations before finally settling upon what I usually get: PANCAKES!!!! My go-to pancakes are the Choco-Monkey Pancakes. These pancakes include 2 of my favorite ingredients: chocolate and bananas. Inspire doesn’t just sprinkle cold, hard chocolate chips on the top of warm pancakes in the hope that they melt before reaching your table. No! They dump a load of chocolate chips directly into the pancake batter. (And they probably add a little more just for giggles.) All of their pancakes are the size of a dinner plate. Enough for 2 people, but the perfect amount for a mom to sit and nibble slowly….very slowly….for hours. And I absolutely believe that one cannot have pancakes without bacon. Inspire Cafe has the thickest, most scrumptious bacon in Memphis!
While I always carry my canteen full of water, a Mom must stay hydrated, so I still order a latte or some hibiscus tea. They have a variety of syrups to make any latte you want. Not into lattes? They have regular coffee, espresso shots, cappuccinos, tea, and hot cocoa. They also have a full smoothie menu, too!
First, my drink comes out. My lattes are always hot and delicious, whether I get the Salted Caramel Latte or the Butter Pecan Latte. I wrap my hand around my latte to knock the winter chill off my fingers. I listen to the soft R&B music playing in the background. And I exhale. My shoulder’s drop. My face relaxes, and I smile.
I read my book while no one calls my name. I turn the page. No one asks to see, aka play with, my phone. It’s tucked deep into my purse. I turn the page. I don’t hold quick “reminder” conversations with the husband. He’s not there to remind me to pay a bill I keep forgetting to do. He’s not there for me to ask him when his “home project” will be done. Again, I turn the page in my book. My parents don’t ask me for a favor. I turn the page. Nothing is asked for me, of me or to me. I just read quietly, undisturbed. That is, until my food comes.
When I get my food, I eat. I don’t cut up anyone’s food into smaller edible pieces. I enjoy every single morsel of my pancake and bacon. Alone. In my solitude!
Sometimes, if I’m feeling frisky and wild, I’ll order my lunch to-go. The BBQ Chicken Quesadilla is HUGE! That way, you can still share with your crumb-snatchers and still get full yourself. A win-win situation.
