My Quest to Find the “Wright” Martial Arts Program
[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Until about a year ago, we were very fortunate to have karate offered at our children’s school. As luck would have it, our beloved karate teacher relocated with her family for an amazing job opportunity outside the state. While we were very happy for them, we began a year-long struggle to find a martial arts school for our children, or specifically, our son. (Our daughter, upon turning the ripe old age of 10, told us in no uncertain terms that she was no longer interested.)
We chanced upon Wright’s ATA Martial Arts Academy when they had a booth set up at a fundraiser for our children’s school. As if sponsoring our school’s fundraiser wasn’t enough (major points for them!), their staff in the booth was very polite, friendly, and able to answer all of our immediate questions. They set up two free trial classes for our 6-year old son right away. They also called me a couple of times to remind me of the free trial class schedules.
We saw almost immediately that Wright’s was going to be a great fit for our son. They are very kid-friendly and are genuinely interested in our child’s progress. They have incentives for kids to do well and encourage focus. They have amazing customer service; teachers will stand at the door and greet parents and children as they come in. The owner is almost always present, observing the classes. After our free trial classes, before they knew whether or not we would sign up, we received a handwritten thank you note in the mail from the owner. They also did not know that I would be writing about my experience as a “secret shopper,” which told me that their wonderful customer service is just the normal way they do business. That kind of customer service, in my opinion, is rare.
It doesn’t hurt of course that their location on Sanderlin is only a couple of minutes’ drive from our children’s school. Location is key for us when it comes to our kids’ after-school activities.
Our son was very excited to sign up for taekwondo at Wright’s ATA Martial Arts. He was also thrilled to receive an ID card in the mail in his name. Since Wright’s is affiliated with the American Taekwondo Association, there are other benefits to our membership that we have not even explored yet.
We are happy to say we have found a home in Wrights Martial Arts.
Wright’s ATA Martial Arts‘ founder, Thomas Wright, is a former US Army Ranger and 4th Degree Black Belt. In 2010 he opened the location on Sanderlin Avenue. Thomas states, “our Martial Arts Program is a developmental, traditional style that helps our students and families become ‘Black Belts in Life’ as well as talented leaders and athletes.”
Classes are offered for families with 3 – 7 year olds, 7 – 13 year olds, 13 – 18, and adults of all ages.
