The Nutcracker Ballet

Growing up, I remember my mother taking me to see The Nutcracker Ballet every year. I remember dressing in my Sunday best, bundling up in mittens and warm coats, and heading off to be transported into another world. The lights would dim, the curtain would rise, the music would start, and my world would fall away. In its place was a world where dreams come to life and words were unnecessary. A world where a daring Nutcracker will do whatever it takes to save his love. One year, after much pleading on my part, my tom-boy mom finally let me agree to take ballet and I got to be IN the Nutcracker. It was truly magical!

This year, start your own holiday tradition and go see  the Children’s Ballet Theater Nutcracker at the Germantown Performing Arts Center. This ballet is perfect for the entire family. The many children featured in the show are amazing, talented, and adorable. The young teenager that plays Clara is a delight and the professional Tennessee Ballet Theater dancers bring an amazing classical ballet performance. Beautiful hand made costumes and sumptuous Baroque scenery transport the audience into Clara’s world and into her dreams. The hour and a half long performance is directed by Mary Van Dyke.
