GO! SEE! EXPLORE! : Collage Dance
Collage Dance is a local dance studio and company, offering dance lessons for 2 year olds-adults. Collage is one of the largest Black arts organizations in the South and one of the only professional ballet companies in the world with a roster of Black dancers.
Completed in December of 2020, Collage Dance has a beautiful new building at Tillman and Sam Cooper, in the heart of Binghampton. With five studios, dressing rooms, multiple lounges, and interior courtyards, it’s a modern marvel. The building is home to the Collage Dance Collective, a professional ballet company founded in New York in 2006. They moved to Memphis in 2007, and have presented eleven seasons of performances and international travel. Their 12th season started in December 2021.
Collage Dance is also home to Collage Dance Conservatory. Welcoming students of all backgrounds and races ages 2-18, dancers at Collage learn through various classical techniques. Students learn the importance of dedication and focus, things they need to excel outside of the world of ballet. This balanced approach to learning dance focuses on creating children with resilient spirits.
Finally, Collage Dance is also home to the Collage Dance Continuum. The goal of the Continuum is to increase access to dance and movement classes for adults in Memphis. Programming includes CORE classes for beginning and intermediate dancers and COURSES classes for adults with no previous experience. It’s more than ballet! They also have line dancing, yoga, Zumba, and hip hop cardio. The best part? Classes are only $6-8!
Collage is an amazing addition to our city. Definitely check it out when you have the chance!
