Are you looking for a coffee shop that is open early and late hours AND on the weekends?  Do you love international cuisine and culture? Then you’ve got to go check out Aldar Cafe!

I have been to Aldar Cafe at different hours of the day: mornings and evenings, during the week, and on weekends. Whatever time you decide to go, everyone there is very friendly. The owner is from Yemen, the manager is from Ethiopia, and many of the things they serve come from those areas. But they also have other Middle Eastern drinks and desserts. One of my favorites is their baklava! They are not your “typical” American coffee shop, and therefore you really have to go here and experience it for yourself.

Aldar Cafe opened in January of 2024 and every time I go in it seems I meet someone international just by talking to some of their regular customers. Fun fact: The owner moved to Memphis just for the Summer Avenue “International District”! Definitely check out the other shops and restaurants around the area because they are delicious and fun as well.

The atmosphere at the Cafe is great and relaxing, with comfy couches and chairs, as well as high tables and chairs.

I have also gone into Aldar several times and found kids playing games from their game corner; Aldar Cafe is an extremely family-friendly place.

They recently started serving breakfast and it is absolutely amazing and affordable! It comes with pita bread, olives, oil, honey, some sweet and savory dips, as well as one of their hot teas.

The coolest experience I have had at Aldar Cafe, and one that I highly recommend, was their coffee tasting. You can book that on your own for a group of 5, or you can go to ones they have scheduled every once in a while. You get to taste at least 5 of their different coffees they serve plus several delicious pastries! Even if you don’t like coffee, I still highly recommend this experience. The smells are amazing too! If you are not full after their tasting, you can still order other pastries and teas for 10% off that same day.

Their pricing is very reasonable and ranges from $4-20 per visit, depending on what you order. Most locals are also very willing to share some of their food, as they have many shareables available, such as their Yemeni honey bread (so delicious!) and they even have pizza now! I have never ordered anything (food or drink) from their menu and disliked it. Even if you are not a coffee lover, they have plenty of other things to try.

So, what are you waiting for?! Go check out Aldar Cafe and enjoy the many Middle Eastern menu items (don’t worry, they also have some “typical” American drinks and menu items to keep their American coffee-loving customers happy).
