GO! SEE! EXPLORE! : South Main Book Juggler

The Book Juggler is new/used bookstore located in the South Main Arts District. Next door to the iconic Arcade restaurant and across the street from Central Station Hotel, it is a delightful spot to pick up your newest read.

While a lot of used bookstores can feel claustrophobic, the Book Juggler is bright and surprisingly spacious for a relatively small space. Used and new books are mixed together and organized by genre and author. There is even a table with bestsellers located conveniently right in the middle of the store, perfect for searching for your next book club suggestion.

But if you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, it is lovely to just slowly peruse the shelves. Even better is to ask the super-helpful owners, who are more than happy to provide a recommendation based on your preferences. And if you do know what you want but can’t find it, the owners will gladly order it for you. Ask by Sunday afternoon, and it’s yours by Tuesday. Local shopping at its best! 

There is a children and young adult section, but it’s rather small. Big enough to entertain your little ones while you shop, however. Local author Alice Faye Duncan‘s books are featured, making it hard to walk out without one of her beautiful books about Civil Rights, such as Memphis, Martin, and the Mountaintop.

Works by other local authors are also featured throughout the store and in their own section. In addition to books, there are gift items by local artists available for purchase, such as greeting cards, journals, hand-crafted pottery, and even paintings. If you like the way it looks on the walls of the bookstore, just imagine how it would look on the walls of your home.

A visit to South Main Book Juggler would be a wonderful addition to any downtown adventure. If you’re a bona fide bookworm, it’s a destination in itself. Like its motto says, it’s “somewhere between serious and silly.” Happy shopping and happy reading!
