The Coolest Places to Play Indoors in Memphis

It’s no secret, Memphis gets scorching hot in the summer (sometimes dangerously so), rainy and damp in the spring and fall, and cold and sometimes icy in the winter. But  sometimes it’s hard to feel inspired and creative with what to do with your kids all year round, over and over. It can often feel like there is nothing left to do with your kids indoors!

With that in mind, we here at Memphis Moms have pulled together a list of the coolest indoor places in and around Memphis to beat boredom year round. So get INDOORS and get playing! There are plenty of fun things to do indoors that you and your kids will love doing!

Featured Location: The Ninja Gym

Looking for a place where kids can run, climb, and play indoors—no matter the weather? The Ninja Gym offers Open Play sessions where kids can swing on monkey bars, balance on beams, and conquer ninja warrior-style obstacles. It’s the ultimate indoor energy-burner for kids of all ages!

Reading and Games

On the other end of the energy spectrum, here is a list of some great places and things to do with a quieter kid. Looking for a fun place to play a board game, pick up a good book, participate in story time, or a safe place for your teens to hang? This is the section for you!

Swimming {memberships required}

These all require a membership of some sort of another BUT if you have a tiny fish or your kid did a few weeks of swim lessons over the summer and you don’t want them to completely forget everything by the NEXT summer, all of these have indoor pool options and may be totally worth it! They all have OUTDOOR options (some including splash areas as well) for those summer months.

Museums and Art

Yes, you can take your kids to an art museum! And you should! The museums here in Memphis are great and kid friendly. The Brooks Museum has a fun, interactive area to explore the art using all five senses. The Dixon has a great little gallery and your kids can get their wiggles out if needed in the gardens. The Metal Museum has monthly family days that are fun and interactive. Plus there are fun children’s museums and The Art Project that obviously should not be missed when you are planning an inside visit.

Bowling/Roller Skating/Mini Golf

When I think of good, old fashioned indoor fun, these are the things I think of. There is something so pure and fun about a skating rink, a bowling alley, or a mini golf course (ESPECIALLY when you can participate in mini golf indoors!). So when you are looking for a fun, rainy day activity, don’t sleep on these!

Preschool Play

Do you have littler kids that need to burn off some energy? These are just for them! Featuring soft areas and/or tiny slides and items, your 3-5 year old will have a ball!
