GO! SEE! EXPLORE! :: Stak’s Pancake Kitchen

GoSeeExplore

You know how in Cheers everyone knows your name when you walk in the door? Well, Stak’s Pancake Kitchen is my very own Cheers.

I literally visit this amazing restaurant at least once every few weeks. Ok if I’m being honest, sometimes even once a week. Boasting both breakfast and lunch menu options, there’s something for everyone. Plus, they have a liquor license so you can get delicious breakfast margaritas with your pancakes or lunch margaritas with your burger! Double yum.

Ignore the coffee and look at that breakfast margarita. So yummy.

GoSeeExploreStak’s is a locally owned and operated “diner” with 3 locations — East Memphis near Perkins and Poplar intersection, Germantown in the same strip plaza at Old Navy and 5 Below, right across the street from Germantown Methodist, or across the border in Southaven (temporarily closed).

Both East Memphis and Germantown have outdoor patio dining, although the Germantown location’s is twice as large. But the East Memphis location has a way better parking situation. So you choose.

pancakes from Stak's
These are JUST plain. But man, oh man, these are some of the fluffiest, tastiest pancakes you’ll ever eat.

Famous for their “staks” of pancakes, they really are the best in the city. For under $6, you can get a “short stak” that’s not at all short. In fact, it’s FOUR plate-sized pancakes that come with hot syrup and real butter. But in case you want to spruce up those already amazing flapjacks, you can add in various fruits (hello bananas!) or chocolate chips. For the even more adventurous, they have an entire listing of gourmet pancakes, including a “cinnamon roll,” the “Elvis,” and even a festive “birthday cake” stack, which is smothered in whip cream and sprinkles and comes with a lit candle on top!

Stak's breakfast burger
This is the breakfast burger — sooooo delicious.

But have no fear if you’re more into savory breakfast items rather than sweet. Stak’s has the most incredible breakfast burger you will ever eat — a giant patty topped with 3 pieces of bacon, melted cheese, hashbrowns, and an over-easy egg, plus special spicy mayo slathered on the toasted bun. OH MY. (of course it comes with a side of pancakes!).

For the health conscious, there’s The Power Breakfast — scrambled eggs whites, slices of tomatoes and avocado, links of spicy chicken sausage, and a side of fruit or gouda grits. Now let’s talk about these gouda grits I just mentioned. These are Delta Grits, y’all, and smooth as you’ll ever taste. Seasoned with the right amount of salt and pepper, gouda cheese is generously melted on top. My 2 year old calls Stak’s grits “cereal” and it’s all she wants for breakfast every day. Me too honey. Me. Too.

My daughter loves the grit at Stak's
Toddler approved is a win in my book. Gwendolyn enjoying her “cereal” and giving it 2 thumbs up. And yes, those are purple sticky notes around her. It was the “entertainment” of the day while waiting for her food.

The lunch menu is just as extensive as their breakfast options and some items could be considered either, in my opinion (like previously mentioned breakfast burger). The menu isn’t 876 pages long where it’s overwhelming to read, but it does have enough offerings that literally anyone who goes there could find something they’d like to try and enjoy. Plus, they support local vendors and source from Marmilu Farms, Hanna Farms, J. Brooks Coffee, Jay’s Bakery, and Howard’s Donuts just to name a few!

J.Brooks Coffee was one of MMC’s “Favorite Things” and seeing this partnership between the 2 businesses makes us even happier.
