GO! SEE! EXPLORE! :: Memphis Hustle Game

The Memphis Hustle is the developmental team for the Grizzlies, playing in the NBA G League (“G” is for Gatorade, the league’s sponsor). Their games are a great opportunity for fans to watch professional basketball in a much more laid-back atmosphere.

The tagline for this developmental league says it all: “Today’s G League. Tomorrow’s NBA.” (Think the Redbirds, but for basketball.) It is possible to see a player on the court for the Hustle and next see him wearing Grizz blue. But no matter which players you are watching, you are guaranteed to have a good time.

Grizzlies games are great (especially with all the new family amenities)…but can also be expensive. Plus, you have to find parking, and you’re probably not going to have court side seats. But the Hustle have taken care of all of those challenges! Tickets are affordable, parking is readily available (and free!), and you will likely be able to sit up close to the action.

The Hustle’s home court is at the Landers Center in Southaven, making it easily accessible from just about anywhere in the metro area. Since this is a smaller arena than, say the FedEx Forum for example, even the “cheap seats” provide an excellent view. It can be easier to pay attention and get involved in the game as well, which helps especially with squirrely kids.

There is plenty to pay attention to, as the Hustle Hype Crew (dance team) works hard to keep fans engaged during time-outs and other breaks in the action. A smaller crowd means more opportunities for Jumbotron appearances and t-shirts thrown into the crowd. And like any good minor league event, there are lots of promotions and activities as well. Have you ever wanted to take your dog to watch basketball? The Hustle has a game for that!

But if your kids do get antsy in their seats, never fear, there’s a Kid Zone! Located at the far end of the court, there are inflatable basketball goals and even a Pop-a-Shot type game to get the wiggles out. Children under five need to be accompanied by an adult, but if you’re comfortable with your big kid(s) going solo, you can keep watching the game after signing a waiver.

Hustle games are fun for the family but even better with friends. They offer steep discounts for groups and are the perfect way for little league teams to bond. Plus, your group will even get a shout-out on the scoreboard and the opportunity to shoot free throws or lay-ups on the court after the game.

Other fan experiences include the chance to be part of the fan tunnel–who wouldn’t want to high five a pro basketball player?–and get autographs from selected players once the game has ended. Merchandise and concessions are also available for purchase. Hustle games have nearly everything you could want…except maybe defense. With final scores like 136-120, it’s hard to say that there is much of that. 😉
