MomTalk Lecture Series : The Anxious Generation

Years ago, before the book The Anxious Generation was even published, I attended a workshop titled “How Much Technology is Too Much?”  Ever since that day, it’s been a dream of mine to host something similar. Fast forward 5 years, and I’m thrilled to announce the first in our new MOMTALK lecture series, a “TED Talk” type event for Memphis families!

Buy your tickets here. Only 50 seats available. Lite refreshments will be served.

Based on the book by Jonathan Haidt, we’ll be discussing “How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness.” The Anxious Generation analyzes the harmful effects of growing up online. While screens have become a totally normalized part of kids’ development today, social psychologist J. Haidt argues that the negative effects might outweigh the benefits.

The event hosts are two local mental health professionals. Part lecture, part round-table discussion, and part open Q&A, this event is directed at parents concerned about how much cell phones play into their everyday life, their child(ren)’s lives, and how much social media is being consumed. We’ll be talking about “old-fashioned” childhoods and living “off-line” as much as “online” and what that might look like for each family. Understanding “one size doesn’t fit all,” our professionals will be offering tangible takeaways, professional tips, and ongoing support to all families. This event is open to all parents, but intended for those that have children ages 10+.

Meet our event professionals

Dr. Amanda Curry  PT, DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified Oncology Specialist, Trauma Informed, Training Camp for the Soul™ Master Facilitator, Level 1 David Elliot Breathwork Facilitator

Besides the professional titles Dr. Curry brings to the event, she herself is a local mom of two. She has a fierce commitment to supporting those who struggle with feeling they are “ too much” and are tired of living in shame and denial of their true essence. As she has transitioned out of full time physical therapy work, she now has opened herself up to hold space for women (and especially moms) to unearth their own deep limiting beliefs that are keeping us stuck, disconnected, and overwhelmed through 1:1 private session, in-person group sessions, and even virtual support groups.
