Ruler of Hope :: Our July Nonprofit of the Month
Memphis surpassed Salt Lake City to rank as the most generous metropolitan area in the United States, giving almost $6 of every $100 earned to philanthropy. With this in mind, the Memphis Moms Blog wants to feature a local Nonprofit every month. There are so many amazing organizations in our city dedicated to looking out for the well being of all Memphians, and we want to feature them. Mother/Daughter Princess Tea to benefit Ruler of Hope
It’s time for pearls, heels and princesses! Join us for a Mother/Daughter Princess Tea to benefit Ruler of Hope! The morning session will be filled with a visit from your favorite ice princess and her sister and the afternoon session with characters from Beauty and the Beast!
Young girls will love the sights and sounds of music from their favorite princesses, along with face painting, princess crafts, photos with the princesses, and a personalized cookie!
The morning session will be Saturday, July 27th, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and the afternoon session will be from 2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at Living Hope Church, 345 Keough Dr, Piperton, TN 38017. The cost is $33 per Mother/Daughter and $10 for each additional person. You must pre-register for the event by going to https://choosejoyroh.wixsite.com/website

So what is Ruler of Hope?
Former Memphis Tiger Football Student Athlete Joshua and his wife Kristen, also a Tiger alumni, launched a nonprofit called Ruler of Hope. Its mission is to provide support and research for medically fragile children.
“We are passionate about spreading hope to children who are battling critical or chronic illnesses. We know first-hand the heaviness and the hardship that a medical diagnosis and medical expenses can bring to them and their families. We want to provide a message of joy during those battles,” Kristen explains.
“Our daughter Landrey is the inspiration behind every aspect of this. She’s had to fight every single day to be here. She does it with a smile on her face. She’s taught me more than I will ever be able to teach her. She’s taught me about choosing joy in adversity. We want to share her message of hope through helping to provide for people going through what we have and are currently experiencing it. We are in the midst of battling this ourselves, but that shouldn’t stop us from impacting those around us.” Joshua adds.
Ruler of Hope focuses on two areas: fundraising to help offset the cost of medical expenses for families of critically or chronically ill children and allocating funding for research for the CSNK2B gene and the illnesses associated with it. The Eargle’s daughter Landrey was the first known diagnosed case in the United States with the rare gene mutation of the CSNK2B gene. Only three other patients in the world are known to have a mutation at all in that gene. Landrey is the only known case with the way that specific gene mutation presents worldwide. She battles epilepsy, intellectual disability, immune-deficiency, and a congenital heart defect. She spent the first 73 days of her life critically ill on life support, enduring a major open-heart surgery and surviving four codes. Until the age of four, Landrey was critically or acutely ill 40% of her life. She’s fought through 15 hospitalizations.
The Eargle’s story took the spotlight last fall when they went public with her diagnosis. Joshua is a college football coach, serving as a senior analyst for the University of Kansas Jayhawks. Last fall, Joshua was an offensive coordinator and Kristen was a sports reporter for a NCAA FCA University. They opened up about Landrey’s genetic diagnosis, the prognosis of no cure, and the financial hardships. The college football community responded in a dynamic way. “We are forever grateful for the kindness of people who have never met her but are inspired by her tenacity and strength. It’s in that love, faith, and kindness that we want to impact others,” Kristen said.
