MEMPHIS STAYCATION : Hilton Garden Inn Downtown

Want to get away, but not too far away? This article features just one of many hotels and accomodations perfect for a Staycation, right here in our own city. Plus there’s so many things to do here — winter, spring, summer, and fall — Memphis has it all.

Located in a perfect location — across the street from the Redbird Stadium and within walking distance of the FedEx Forum — is the downtown Hilton Garden Inn. Now, I know what you’re thinking: chain hotel, no personality, expensive prices. Well, we’re here to tell you, you couldn’t be further from the truth!

SWANKY BOUTIQUE FEEL

First off, when you pull up to the hotel’s main entrance, you feel like a celebrity passing off your keys to the valet attendant. Sure, you can street park or use the adjescent parking garage, but why would you? For less than $30, you can overnight park your vehicle, knowing it’s attended and safe.

There’s a little “grocery store” next to the check in desk mimicking a corner market, offering snacks, sandwiches, even wine, local beer, and champagne. Of course there’s also the main dining room area, where a luxurious hot buffet awaits you in the morning, or the hotel bar, The Greyhound, perfect for late night fare and creative cocktails. (seriously, follow The Greyhound on Instagram and start drooling over the bartender’s creations). The outdoor patio with twinkly lights and heaters compete the “night on town” feel — without actually needing to leave the hotel property.

Even if you don’t spend the night, The Greyhound is the perfect date night location. Large outdoor patio and extensive cocktail list makes this an ideal place to relax!

THE ROOM

The exclusive feeling continues as you ride the elevator, needing your room key to access the floors above. Entering your room, it’s the perfect size — roomy closet, desk, and lounge area surround either two queen beds or one king. There’s even a coffee bar with a keurig and complimentary coffee, tea, and bottled water. The bathrooms are immaculate and the walk in shower has room for two, if that’s something that interests you! Fluffy white towels and name-brand soap make you lack for nothing. But don’t worry! If you forget travel essentials like a tooth brush or a shaving kit, simply call the front desk for some.

We had a room that overlooked the Redbird Stadium, but even on game day, it’s wasn’t noisy!

THE EXTRAS

Not every hotel can boast they have an indoor pool, but Hilton Garden Inn can. No matter the weather, it’s the perfect spot to relax or, if hanging with the family, let out some energy. It’s never busy, so it feels like you have your own private pool at your fingertips. Across the hall, you’ll find the gym. While not very big, it does contain everything one could need: machines, free weights, treadmill, etc. After you sweat out your stress, and you feel like you need to sneak in some work (we hope you don’t, since you’re on a staycation, remember?), there is a business office with complimentary computers and printer.
