mom of the month
October Mom of the Month {2018}

Memphis is full of amazing moms: working moms, stay-at-home moms, single moms, moms of multiples, etc. We want to highlight some of those moms! Each month we will feature one special mom as MMB’s mom of the month.

Meet Sarah, a mom of two boys, 3 if you count her husband John, our October Mom of the Month! Hayden (4) and Emerson (1) are her world, and also the reason she has grey hairs coming in. She dove into photography head first in 2014, when she found out she was pregnant with her oldest. She wanted to find a way to take her own photos and make them actually look good. Finally, after about a year of playing around and countless learning sessions, she named her business and got serious. Oh Snap Photography was born in 2015 and has been her brain-child ever since. She prides herself on making each client feel like family, working with every budget no matter how small, and making sure that when her clients leave they are completely happy with all aspects of the session.

The year 2018 has brought some exciting new ventures into her life, and she has started to dabble in high-fashion, stylized photography, as well as commercial food styling (huge perk: not having to make dinner that night when she brings home the leftovers!) She is overwhelmed at the amount her business has grown just in 3 short years. It is an exciting ride, and she cannot wait to see where it takes her family!

We asked Sarah:

1. How do you balance being a stay-at-home mom and a photographer?

Balance is all in the organization! I keep 3 different planners: one for my business, one for the boys, and one for my husband and me. Sometimes I feel like I would forget my head if it wasn't attached, so the more places I write stuff down, the better! I have to piece each appointment around the needs of my family. This is one of the many reasons I love photography; being able to make my own hours. We always make time for each other, even during the fall (wedding season). I am gone just about every Saturday and Sunday for 6-8 hours each day, so time with all 3 of my boys (hubby included) is scarce. Planning fun little "days out" for the family really makes it easier!

2. Tell us three fun facts about yourself!

1. My dad is a retired USAF MSSGT, and was the Chief of the In-Flight Presidential Kitchen on Air Force One. Can you say COOLEST JOB EVER? As a 5-year-old, I loved coming to work with my dad in the giant kitchen to prep food before they took off for wherever they were going next.
2. I am a Revolutionary War/Civil War buff. I actually met my husband during a re-enactment at George Washington's Mount Vernon.
3. I love to coupon! It is such a rush to watch your total climb then fall back to pennies on the dollar. I am not extreme by any means. Like my mom told me when I got started, "If you don't need 20 of something, you're not saving any money!"

3. What do you love most about Memphis?

Memphis truly is a melting pot. I have lived in 5 different states: PA, MD, WV, VA, and TN, none of which compare to here! I love how my job enables me to meet so many different people I might not have crossed paths with otherwise. I get to capture memories for people of every race, orientation, religion, and social-economic class. Memphis has something to offer for everyone!

It’s Time :: Moms, Let’s Do Better
I have a serious question. (This rarely happens. *wink*) When did it become okay to be late? Maybe I’m old-school or am just imagining it (I’m not.), but it seems these days it’s becoming more and more typical for people to casually stroll into meetings 10-15 minutes late, blow off dinner plans for an hour […]
Veterans Day and Our Kids
My first memories of celebrating Veterans Day are from elementary school. In my tiny hometown of Bruceton, TN, we had an awesome celebration each year to honor veterans in the area. Since our school had kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building, the entire school attended the program. I have such fond memories of the Veterans of […]
