March Mom of the Month {2018}

Memphis is full of amazing moms: working moms, stay-at-home moms, single moms, moms of multiples, etc. We want to highlight some of those moms! Every month we will feature one mom as MMB’s mom of the month.

Meet Lisa Caufield: owner of The Casual Pint, and our March Mom of the Month! She is 52 years old, has been happily married to her best friend for 30 years, has two boys (25 and 27), and a granddaughter due in July.

Her husband is an executive with a local company, and she was able to help by entertaining on business trips with him. Since she was a stay at home mom for most of her marriage, she had the flexibility to travel with her husband while focusing on raising her two boys. Not completely foreign to owning a company, Lisa did have a small embroidery business that she ran out of her house for 6 years. She fulfilled orders during the day (while the boys were at school) so that she could attend all of their *many* sporting events later.

After they were empty nesters, they decided to try something different. They bought the rights to The Casual Pint and started their own business. After the first month, Lisa and her husband realized that the manager they had hired to do the day-to-day running of the restaurant was not working out. That is when Lisa took over. She had never realized that she was so much of a control freak, but that “flaw” seems to be working! She has been running EVERYTHING ever since.

We asked Lisa:

What is it like, running your own business?

This has been quite the adventure and so much more than I expected. The saying “if you build it they will come” is an understatement. There is so much more involved in being a small business. It is a living, breathing, eating machine, and it never stops. All of my “beertenders” are women, and I love that. We all have so much fun working together and have each others’ back. It’s like a sisterhood and I am Momma C. I am truly blessed to have such a diversified group of women.

What advice would you give a young mother?

The only advice I have for young mothers is “don’t sweat the small stuff.” Enjoy every moment those babies are under your roof, as it is gone so fast!!!

What are three fun things about you?

My husband and I love to travel. I am a huge dog nut, which is why the Pint is dog-friendly. I enjoy gardening in my yard and entertaining our friends around our dream pool and backyard.

Since you own a bar that focuses mainly on beer, what it your favorite beer?

I was always a red wine girl, but now that I run a craft beer place, I can drink any type of beer. I didn’t know anything about beer until we purchased this franchise! I have learned that you are never too old to keep learning!!
