Love Letters from Mom :: My Bathtub

Dear Bathtub,

It amazes me just how you care for me. There isn’t a day that goes by that you’re not there for me; waiting patiently to relax me and bring me peace. I don’t believe there’s another person on earth that loves you the way that I do. When I’m having a long day at work, I think about you. When the kids are driving me crazy, I think about you. Those rare moments when I’m home alone, I come to see you first. You always know exactly what I need. You allow me to take my time and unwind in total comfort. It doesn’t matter the time of day, you’re ready. The kids know when mommy is soaking don’t come knocking. Once that door is locked, it’s just the two of us for as long as the water stays hot. I can add bubble bath, a bath bomb, some bath oils, or nothing at all; your delivery is consistent. You cover every inch of me and remind me that with you there is peace, quiet, and relaxation. When we are together nothing else matters and when it’s all over, you carry all of my tension and anxiety down the drain.

Now, I don’t remember how this crazy love affair started but I do remember being young; way before I had kids. Thinking back on it now, I can’t recall a time that I didn’t love you. I’m sure it was love at first soak. Being a wife and a mother, I know that our time isn’t as frequent as it once was, but it doesn’t mean I love you any less. It just means that when we do get together, that time is special and I enjoy every second. When our time is up my husband always asks, “How was your soak?” Even he knows how much I enjoy you. When I tell the kids I am going to take a soak, they reply, “Enjoy mom, we will be just fine.”  Yeah it’s that serious. I mean my days are long and some are hard, and you bring a certain kind of joy that no other item can fill. Now a bath and a soak are two totally different things with two different agendas. A bath is just to get clean, but a soak is on another level…a euphoria that can’t be explained or contained.

My lovely bathtub, no matter where life takes me, just know that you will always hold a special place in my heart. I can’t soak without you and soaking is life!

Your #1 fan,

Angela
