GO! SEE! EXPLORE! : Craft Axe Throwing

Craft Axe Throwing is the newest place for axe throwing in Memphis. Located in the Edge District, it’s nestled right between midtown and downtown, and just minutes from so many bars, restaurants, and shops. The MMC contributor team recently got to experience a night there and, whether you have thrown axes in the past or are a complete novice, it’s so much fun as a date night, moms night out, or a “date”with your bigger kids.

When you walk in, you notice immediately how bright and clean the space is. It’s HUGE, with 14 lanes available. There is a bar in the back selling local draughts and the check out area at the front also serves local beer in cans. You can often find a food truck parked nearby or can grab dinner to-go from a nearby restaurant and dine while you throw. **Outside alcohol is not permitted. There’s even a throne in the establishment for fun group pictures or to show off getting a bullseye!

You pay by the hour. 4 people can comfortably fit on one lane, or you can get two lanes side-by-side and go for a head-to-head competition. Bullseyes are worth the most points, so in this case you want quality throws over quantity throws. Each session starts with some quick coaching and safety rules. There are three different ways to throw the axe. Personally, I liked the set your feet and rock throw. (And I was way too scared to throw it underhand like a bowling ball, so let us know if you have success with that throw!) You do have to wear close-toed shoes, and there is a waiver to sign before you throw. Kids 10 and up are also allowed to throw and there’s lighter weight axes available for children if needed. I highly recommend this as a fun, unique night out. Tag us on social media if you go!
