GO! SEE! EXPLORE! : Playground of Dreams in Arlington
Fall is (sort of!) in the air. Which means now is the perfect time to start exploring all the wonderful playgrounds in Memphis. We have some amazing places to play but one of the top-rated playgrounds is in the Memphis suburb of Arlington.
Let us introduce you to the Playground of Dreams!
Arlington’s new Playground of Dreams is located around the corner from the historic Depot Square area of town. It’s part of the Hughes-College Hill Park, which has a paved walking trail, little covered pavilions, and a public bathroom. The parking lot sits adjacent to the playground and grassy park area.
The original Playgrounds of Dreams, built on the same spot in 2006, was torn down in March of 2019 after being declared unsafe. The original playground was wood and resembled a castle in places. And while some adults are nostalgic for the original one, this new playground is heaven for young kids!
All built on astro-turf, the new playground boasts nine slides, a designated toddler area and toddler-size/baby swings, a jungle gym section, and large shaded areas for hot days. Plus, there’s a rope feature in the middle, which kids of all ages can explore and climb.
Off to the side of the playground, a musical instrument area has been installed. There’s a giant xylophone, drums, and other things. Instruments are an important aspect of playing, so children of all abilities can have fun. There’s also fun “tick tack toe” type interactive games and a small climbing wall. Along the back section of the playground, you’ll find a row of big-kid swings, where up to 8 kids can swing at a time.
