Friday Favorites : Perimenopause Self-Care Edition

Let’s be real: perimenopause can have your hormones raging! One minute you’re all cute and poised, and the next, you’re a sweating anger machine. There are night sweats, day sweats, dry skin, strange odors, and mood swings, just to name a few. Here are a few of my favorites for combating the torment that perimenopause causes my body.

Naturium Vitamin C Complex Serum

This is essential for my perimenopause face routine. Lately, I have been experiencing dryness on my face, and I can tell when I don’t apply this after washing my face. If I skip it, my face gets tight just a couple of hours later. This instantly hydrates my skin and gives me a glow. It also works well for dry lips. Use this before applying your Vaseline or Aquaphor. I recently fell and required stitches on my face, and this helped with minimizing the scar as it healed.

Shower Steamers

These have been a great way to start or end my day (or both). After perimenopausal night sweats, I use these in my shower to help motivate me and improve my attitude. This item isn’t brand-specific; just let the aromatherapy do what it needs to do. Pampering counts as self-care! I also had a citrus scent that is great in the mornings.

La Roche Posay Thermal Spring Water Face Mist

This is probably so unnecessary, but I am absolutely in love with this product. My skin gets so dry throughout the day, and this has been a true gem for me. One mist, and my skin loosens and feels so hydrated. It’s so refreshing! This is also great on a hot summer’s day or a hot day in general when dealing with perimenopause. It’s a splurge for sure, but it has quickly earned a spot in my top 5.

Black Girl Sunscreen

In my older age, I am learning to appreciate sunscreen. I thought my melanin was enough to protect me from the harmful rays of the sun, but I guess not. Also, don’t search this on TikTok – there is a huge debate over African Americans and the use of sunscreen. Yes, it took me down a rabbit hole. Regardless of what you choose to do, this one doesn’t disappoint. It doesn’t leave a white cast on my face, nor does it feel heavy. I don’t wear makeup, but this product would be fine as part of your regular face routine. I have also used Neutrogena Face Sunscreen with great results. But ladies, perimenopause or not, use your sunscreen!

EOS Lotion

I’m addicted. Simple as that. EOS and I have a real deal relationship. Perimenopause will have you out here smelling like you don’t use soap. I’m not going to share how many different scents of this lotion I have, but I love them all. Now I am a skin care junkie/snob, and I have an entire skin care routine. If you want the details on my routine, just let me know, and I’ll get them to you! Keep in mind, this is only to smell amazing; I still use a different, more moisturizing lotion as a base. But I wear these even with my perfumes…but again, let me know if you want the details.

Seems like as soon as we hit puberty, we have to have products to get us through specific phases in our lives. Check out some essentials for your teen here.
