Ronald McDonald House :: Our June Nonprofit of the Month {2026}
At Ronald McDonald House West Tennessee & Northeast Arkansas, formerly known as Ronald McDonald House Charities of Memphis, our mission is simple but powerful. We provide essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families, and promote healing when children need healthcare far from home. Ronald McDonald House is a nurturing, family-centered residential community that keeps children near the care they need with the family they love when they need it most.
When a child is hospitalized, families are often forced to make impossible choices between staying close to their child or managing the financial and emotional burden of travel, lodging, and meals. Every day, we provide housing, meals, and support services at no cost to families with seriously ill or injured children—so they can focus on what matters most: their child’s health. Ronald McDonald House serves as a safe haven, a place of respite, and truly a home away from home.
The Ronald McDonald House in Memphis opened its doors in 1991 as the first housing partner serving families and their children being treated at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. With the support of the community, Ronald McDonald House has served over 13,000 families from 45 states and 59 countries worldwide.
2025 was a record-breaking year in so many ways at the Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, TN. One of the most important records broken was the number of families we served. Over 1,400 families called the Ronald McDonald House home. This exceeded every year in our history. More than 28,000 meals were prepared for over 6,000 guests who stayed at Ronald McDonald House last year.
Another great achievement is that this year we opened our 20-room house program in Jackson, TN, and are working to expand our mission in Jonesboro, AR, to serve more families. With this growth, our organization has undergone a name change to reflect the expanded regional scope of our mission. We are now Ronald McDonald House West Tennessee & Northeast Arkansas. This new regional alignment unifies our mission’s purpose of caring for families with children who are ill or injured, regardless of their location within our chapter. Additionally, it signifies to all communities that they are a vital partner in supporting the families who rely on our programs.
When families walk through the doors at Ronald McDonald House in Memphis, they find more than a place to stay—they find comfort and hope during their most difficult moments. Families are provided breakfast, lunch, and dinner throughout the week. We offer 51 comfortable private family rooms with clean linens and toiletries, and we have 2 two-bedroom apartments for larger families. There is a fully stocked pantry and kitchen access for families wanting to cook their own meals. We have 2 playgrounds that feature all-inclusive accessibility equipment. Families can also enjoy 2 game/entertainment rooms and a craft room, or engage in Family Fun night activities.
The welcoming smiles and helpful hands of our staff and volunteers are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, whether a family needs laundry detergent, a snack, or a meal. Families can count on 24/7 security to know they are safe.
Ronald McDonald House exists to remove barriers, reduce stress, and ensure families never have to face these moments alone.
