Alliance Healthcare Services :: Our December Nonprofit of the Month {2022}

Mental Health Affects us All

Mental Health is more important than ever.  And taking that first step in your journey towards wellness can feel challenging. In the last few years, as celebrities and others have begun speaking out about their own struggles with mental illness, we’ve begun to more actively promote our services to the community. With the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for Alliance’s services has grown exponentially. Anxiety is high, and people are seeking help in greater numbers than ever before.

To address the mental health needs of Memphis and Shelby County, we focus on providing outpatient, intensive outpatient, home-based, school-based, and community-based programs to people of all ages with many types of behavioral health challenges. Families never want to find themselves in the place where they feel hopeless to help themselves or their children, but at Alliance Healthcare Services therapists, clinicians, and a team of devoted, passionate professionals can treat the whole person and meet you where you are on your journey. That's why we work with you strategically and collaboratively to understand what is actually taking place in your life before we make any recommendations on treatment.

No More Stigma; Let's Talk about It

One in five Americans suffers from a mental illness, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness. And mental illnesses start showing symptoms by age 14. As in all of our service areas, our approach to treating children and families is based on a keen awareness of social determinants of health, the economic and social conditions that influence individual and group differences in health. We see patients from single family households and a vast array of trauma and adverse childhood experiences. And like in other service areas, COVID lockdowns and social isolation combined with an increasing acceptance of mental health in popular media means our volume in this area has increased significantly since 2019. And just like in the other services areas, our team approach is key – it’s not just a therapist, it’s a whole team wrapping itself around each patient, from psychiatrist and practitioner to case manager and family support therapist.

It’s Time :: Moms, Let’s Do Better
I have a serious question. (This rarely happens. *wink*) When did it become okay to be late? Maybe I’m old-school or am just imagining it (I’m not.), but it seems these days it’s becoming more and more typical for people to casually stroll into meetings 10-15 minutes late, blow off dinner plans for an hour […]
Veterans Day and Our Kids
My first memories of celebrating Veterans Day are from elementary school. In my tiny hometown of Bruceton, TN, we had an awesome celebration each year to honor veterans in the area. Since our school had kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building, the entire school attended the program. I have such fond memories of the Veterans of […]
