Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program :: Our March Nonprofit of the Month {2024}

The Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program is a UT Extension program that trains volunteers to provide the public with research-based information on lawn and garden topics. TEMGs are volunteers who have a love of plants and horticulture coupled with extension training to equip them to teach and assist Tennessee residents.

The Tennessee Extension Master Gardener Program seeks to improve the lives of Tennesseans by promoting environmental stewardship, non-commercial food production, and human health and well-being through residential and consumer horticulture education delivered by a dedicated and skilled volunteer network.

The Memphis Area Master Gardeners are an active group and are in our 29th year! As volunteers we organize and host several community events throughout the year. A few of those are:

  • Spring Fling 2024, A FREE Educational Garden Event and Plant Sale.
  • Through our Garden Gates: Local Master Gardeners open the yards for the public to visit.
  • Junior Master Gardener Camp offers a fun and educational experience for students entering grades 3-6 (ages 8–11). Campers learn about nature, science, wildlife and plants through hands-on projects, educational discussions and games, on-site field trips, and make-and-take-home crafts.
  • Master Gardeners Present: A Better Way to Garden. The Memphis Area Master Gardeners Association produces a spring presentation open to the public. Topics are appropriate for the season, current trends and conditions.

Join us on March 22-23 Spring Fling 2024, A FREE Educational Garden Event and Plant Sale. We are celebrating the 20th anniversary of this fun-filled event! This event is from 9am–5 pm at the Red Barn at the Agricenter, 7777 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis, TN, 38120.

It’s Time :: Moms, Let’s Do Better
I have a serious question. (This rarely happens. *wink*) When did it become okay to be late? Maybe I’m old-school or am just imagining it (I’m not.), but it seems these days it’s becoming more and more typical for people to casually stroll into meetings 10-15 minutes late, blow off dinner plans for an hour […]
Veterans Day and Our Kids
My first memories of celebrating Veterans Day are from elementary school. In my tiny hometown of Bruceton, TN, we had an awesome celebration each year to honor veterans in the area. Since our school had kindergarten through 12th grade in the same building, the entire school attended the program. I have such fond memories of the Veterans of […]
