Memphis Staycation : Frequency House
We’ve highlighted some amazing hotels in our “My Memphis Staycation” series, but what if you don’t want a “typical” staycation? Hotels with all the bells and whistles might not fit your personality — or budget for that matter. This is why we were super excited to find out about something brand new: a house that boasts 3 bedrooms, a fully stocked kitchen, AND a gorgeous backyard, all right in the heart of Midtown.
Meet Frequency House
I was doom scrolling one night (as one does) and stumbled upon Frequency House’s Instagram account. I was immediately drawn into the mid-century vibe (I love this time period of furniture) and the cool, eclectic art throughout the space. I thought: “Whoah, this would be SO FUN to stay at!”
It’s easy to book (through Airbnb) and once my reservation was confirmed, the owners sent me a door code that unlocked the front door (no key needed & super safe). I parked out front (street parking) and the covered front porch just screamed, Ccome sit, enjoy a glass of wine!” It’s the perfect porch for some Southern summer porch sittin’.
Welcome to Midtown
Once I got unloaded, the first thing I checked out was the visitor’s guide. The owners thoughtfully put together an entire binder; everything was in there, from emergency numbers to suggested nearby restaurants. Their suggestions were near perfect, so even if you aren’t an out of town guest, the places you might wander to might be “new to you.” Cooper Young is just a few blocks away and there’s so much to explore right there in Midtown (restaurants, coffee shops, splash pad, playground, shopping, and more!)
Sleeps 8
There’s plenty of room for a big family or two families with two kids each! There are two bedrooms, one with a king and one with a queen (and ample closet space) and there’s one designated kids’ room with a full size, top and bottom, bunk bed. The kids’ area also has complimentary board games, coloring sheets, comfy bean bag chairs, and more!
Oh, the shower
This bathroom is light, airy, and totally vintage. The water was surprisingly HOT (You never know with old historic houses!), and the water pressure good. The house comes with bougie shampoo, conditioner, and body wash, plus gorgeous fluffy (very, very white) towels and bathrobes. I think I stood under the spray for a good 15 minutes, because I was kid-free and it was the most relaxing thing after a long day.
Backyard Bliss
If you bring kids along, no matter where you are, there will be the inevitable, “I’m bored!” complaint. But have no fear, because Frequency House boasts an entire trunk full of yard games, including corn hole and a tub of sidewalk chalk. There’s a hammock for some summer napping and an outdoor, comfy sectional for some summer reading. There’s also a cute outdoor bar, the perfect way to kick off happy hour or watch the sun set.
Extra Special Details
On top of all the awesome features of the house, there’s a few extra special touches that made this stay feel very unique. First, the owners have thoughtfully curated an entire record collection — from Johnny Cash to (of course) Elvis — that represents so much of Memphis’ music scene. It was lovely to put on some “background music” while relaxing. Second, the art work throughout the house is pure Memphis; from themes to artists, each one is labeled to showcase the talent we have right here in the 901. There’s also a coffee bar, full sized washer/dryer, and fully stocked kitchen, complete with waffle maker, to make this staycation one where you won’t want to leave!
