Where should you go when you want to hit a few golf balls yet are craving a full English tea service? HighTee! More than an amazing play-on words, HighTee is the perfect spot to indulge in both of these, seemingly disparate, activities.

HighTee, which is located in the Laurelwood Shopping Center in East Memphis, is the brainchild of Leiana and Ethan Lee. They previously owned a golf-only location, but when the space next door became available, Leiana was able to fulfill her dream of having her own tea room. The pun in the name is a great bonus.

The tea room is located in the front of the facility, so when you first walk in, you might not even realize that there is a golf simulator in the same building. It is the cutest space, complete with Victorian-era furniture, plate walls, a well-stocked bookshelf, and even a fish tank. If you’re lucky, you might even get to enjoy the delicious aroma of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies upon entry.

But if you are there to hit a round of balls or practice your putting, you need not look far. Directly behind a partition are several golf simulation bays and a putting green (actually more of a putting Oriental rug).

Honestly, I’m not much of a golfer, so my visits have been strictly for the tea. However, there are a ton of activities to appeal to all ranges of golf enthusiasts. For the hobbyist, HighTee can host events like birthday parties, corporate team-building, or just a fun outing with friends. For those who are a little more serious, there are leagues and memberships to maximize tee time. And for those who want to be more serious, there are even lessons with experienced golf instructors, including owner Ethan. They even offer golf club repair and adjusting for the true pros.

HighTee describes themselves as a “virtual country club,” so in addition to all of the aforementioned activities, they also offer club building and other pro shop amenities. You can even start your own league with your own rules, perfect for a group of dads looking to hang out more often. There is even a neurofeedback room! Gift cards are available as well.

But back to the tea. I can totally picture a scenario where a golf-loving kid or partner can tee up while Mom can tea down. While the golf simulator makes a fun get-together spot, the tea room is also a great place to gather. I recently had the privilege of meeting there with my book club, enjoying conversation and delicious tea and pastries. Some members partook of the tea service, which includes optional soup and sandwiches. Leiana and her staff were so accommodating of our needs!

Even though it may seem like an odd pairing, the Lees definitely have a hole-in-one with their “tee room” (sorry, not sorry). But I’ll leave it to them to explain–in a less punny way–why you should check out their space: “Whether you’re here to grind out 18 holes with your crew or sip Earl Grey from fine china, HighTee is designed to feel like your favorite ‘third place’—somewhere between home and work where time doesn’t feel rushed.”
