GO! SEE! EXPLORE! :: Jumping World
Although it sounds a little like a name my kids made up, Jumping World is a legit trampoline park located along the I-40 corridor near Bartlett. You may have driven by the unassuming warehouse-type building without knowing the fun–and exhaustion–it contains. But once you know, your kids will beg to go back.
Jumping World is a traditional trampoline park, complete with trampolines (duh), a jumping pit, dodgeball area, slam dunk spot, and plenty of birthday party space. Recent additions include an indoor playspace for kids under 4 feet, a ninja obstacle course, and a jousting area. The facility is currently undergoing some renovations; expect an expanded arcade area and some mini go karts in the future. The entrance and front desk will be moving slightly as well, but for now, the entrance is actually under a sign for the adjoining storage facility, so don’t be confused.
Anyone–children and adults–can jump. The only requirement is that participants must wear grippy socks (that can be purchased on site or brought from home…even from another trampoline park) and not wear any metal on clothing (ie, jeans). Parents must sign a safety waiver as well, which can be filled out online in advance. Speaking of safety, jump guards are stationed throughout the facility to ensure that everyone participates in a safe way.
Jumping sessions are one hour each with the option of adding on time for a discounted rate. Toddlers (age 4 and under) also qualify for a discounted rate. Once in the facility, all activities–with the exception of the mechanical bull–are open for all participants. A smattering of arcade games and snacks from the concession stand are also available for purchase.
The recent additions, like the ninja course, put Jumping World more on par with other trampoline parks. While I appreciated the pre-renovation simplicity and being able to see my big kids and toddler even when they were in different areas, there are still plenty of places for parents to post up and watch their children.
Even better, though, is jumping with them!
The main trampoline area has what are called “tumbling lanes,” which are long trampolines that slope up on one end. If your children are scrappy spider monkeys like mine, they will exhaust themselves racing as fast as they can to scramble up the slope and then sliding down their backside. Repeat ad nauseum.
Another favorite area for my family is the jumping pit. It is exactly what it sounds like: a giant pit that you jump into after bouncing from a trampoline. Expect a lot of “Watch me!” as you patiently watch a series of jumps that all look the same, yet all have slight variations known only to your child.
On our most recent visit, my big kids spent a lot time bouncing between the playspace and ninja course. The former is filled with tunnels and plenty of places to climb (no parents allowed!) and the latter features several obstacles of varying difficulty levels, allowing participants to demonstrate their upper body strength (or not). My girls also had way too much fun knocking the stuffing out of each other in the new jousting area, a relatively safe way to work out some sibling rivalry.
The majority of our Jumping World excursions have centered around birthday parties, for friends and even for our own celebrations. In fact, when I turned 40, I wanted to do something that would allow me to not feel my age and also be reminiscent of my 1980s-90s childhood. Jumping for an hour on a trampoline (which is way different after having babies, by the way) definitely satisfied the first requirement, while the bright colors and distinct trampoline park smell checked the box on the second.
